NEW TO TEAM Z HEADS-UP NIGHTS

*New Class*
DynoServe Run What Ya Brung!
FrWith the
addition of the new DynoServe Run What Ya Brung, this was the largest crowd and
show for the Head's Up race EVER! Up until final round of eliminations at ending
at midnight, the grandstands were packed! The new class was a great addition to
the Team Z Heads-Up nights because the rules you have to go by is simple, NO
RULES! As long as the cars pass tech inspection and follow the IHRA rules, they
are allowed to try to get into this 8 car field! Not only was the Run What Ya
Brung class new to this Friday night but also the addition of the heart stopping
Milan Girls. These beautiful girls were walking around passing out stickers for
the upcoming 3rd annual IHRA Motor City Nationals. Not to mention turning some
heads as they passed by!
In the final round of qualifying it was
"Flash" Gordon Veal with his Willy's that took the #1 qualifying spot with an
amazing E.T. of 6.4820 at 214.31! For the first race we had a FULL 8 car field
consisting of Don Walsh Jr., Bob Payton, Doug Holmes, John Vergotz, Gordon Veal,
Chris Goebel, Dan Petrie and the Varisty Ford sponsored Jimmy Detrick. During
first round of eliminations Veal took out Goebel, Vergotz took out Doug Holmes,
Blasting Bob Payton took out Walsh and Detricks Ford took out Dan Petrie. But in
the final round it was only Gordon Veal and Jimmy Detrick left standing! Both
lined up at the line and waited for the lights to kick on and let them know it
was time to go. Both cars staged and it was Detrick that jumped off first wit ha
+.0131 reaction against Veal's +.1679. Jimmy left Gordon behind him at the
finish line by only .0218 taking the first place place finish in the DynoServe
Run What Ya Brung class!

Street Bike
Shoot - Out
FrThis
months Friday Night Street Bike Shoot - Out brought out the fastest street bike
that we have seen through the series this year! Phil Stoll came all the way once
again from the great city of Chicago, IL to Milan Dragway to show what he was
made of. Phil claimed the number one position in the street bike qualifying the
first seven second qualifying time this year! At the beginning of the race the
first pair out was #1 qualifier Phil Stoll against #6 qualifier. Phil made it
down to the top end first almost a second ahead of his opponent. Next it was
Brock Davidson lining up against Rick Livy. Tree came down and off the start
Brock had the better reaction of +.1038. Down track Brock raced ahead of Rick
and made his way into second round of eliminations. Third and final pair of
round one was Shane Ratliff going against the #3 qualifier Todd Zeller. Once
again Todd had Shane from right off the line and flew to the 1/4 mile finish wit
ha 8.0960. Finally final round of eliminations came at 11:15pm when Phil Stoll
lined up against Brock Davidson. When the lights came down Brock had the better
reaction, but that doesn't always count because Phil Stoll proved why he was
number one when he went through the finish line first with a 7.6437 at 188 mph
putting Brock Davidson at the runner-up spot for the night!

Holbrook Racing Engines 10.5
Outlaw
One is all it took this month to cut us short of the full 16 car qualified
field. After 3rd round of qualifying we had 15 of the 16 spots filled! The good
news, that doesn't mean it cut the show short! Dan Millen fell out of the number
one position he held last months race and Greg Blevins and his beautiful 2000
Ford Saleen Mustang qualified number one after qualifying rounds were over with.
When first round of eliminations began there were a few more racers missing.
Both Rob Golobo and Kurt Gallant recieved single runs because their opponents
Dave Kloput and Dan Millen were unable to make first round. Dan Millen's car
just was not running up to par and sat out getting the car ready for July's
race!
First pair up to the starting line in
eliminations for the Holbrook Racing Engines 10.5 Outlaw category was Chris
White and his 87' Buick T-Type going against Matt Reese and his 1988 Ford
Mustang. Chris had the better reaction time, but Matt kept his acceleration
going and passed Chris advancing into round 2. Next up it was Mike Floeter and
Jim Filipowski battling it out to see who was moving on in the race. From the
start when the tree came down, Filipowski was in the lead and Floeter was
knocked out of the eliminations. Next up it was number 6 qualifier Brad Tyson
and his ever ready Ford Mustang taking on Josh Brown. Josh beat Tyson at the
reaction light but Brad made up for it at the finish line advancing into next
round. Steve Turley and Dean Parker followed next with Turley knocking Parker
out of eliminations. Kirk Ferris and Tom Hersch appeared next and Kirk came out
on top advancing into next round. Finally it was Rob Golobo, Kurt Gallant
getting single passes and Greg Blevins Jr. took the bye run.
Throughout eliminations anticipation built as
each round went by. Finally it was time when at 11:52 P.M. came and it was the
#1 qualifier Greg Blevins Jr. and Brad Tyson met in the finals. Blevins took the
left Varsity Ford side of the track while Tyson lined up in the right F.A.S.T.
lane. Blevins dove in first, not waiting for Tyson's staging battle and tree
came down. Blevins was behind by a thousandth of a second but flew ahead of
Tyson at the 330' and took the first place for the 4th Team Z Head's Up Holbrook
Racing Engines 10.5 Outlaw race at 7.4479, 191.46 MPH!

WHEEL TO WHEEL
ALL MOTOR CLASS
The Wheel to Wheel All Motor Class just keeps getting better and better each and
every event we have. This race we saw the number one qualifier Lane Lambert take
both the number one qualifying spot in qualifying and also take the top spot in
the race. When eliminations came we were 5 short of having a full 16 car field.
We were also one short of a racer because Buck Parenteau was not able to make it
up for his spot in eliminations. Unfortunately one of the racers that showed up
but were unable to make a pass was Robert Ballard. First round of eliminations
came ten in the evening and it was Bill Adamski against Steve Quinn for the
first pair out. The two chevy's lined up on the line and waited for one another
to stage. Bill's 69' Chevy camaro came off first with an impressive +0.439
reaction against the Z28's +.1221 reaction. Don't at the finish line it was
Adamski that moved into 2 round of eliminations. In third round of eliminations
came the semi-finals. It was the number one qualifier Lane Lambert against Kelly
Longwish and Scott Williams streak advancing him in the bye run spot. Both Lane
and Kelly had near identical reactions but Lane's 9.4621 pass put him into the
finals against Scott Williams. Round 4 finals came at 11:49 P.M. and the stands
were still packed with spectators on both spectator side AND the pit side! Lane
and Scott knew it was show time! Lane pulled the 69' Dodge Dart up into the left
lane and Scott's 65' Chevy Chevelle into the right lane. Both cars staged and
Lane came off first with a +.0620 reaction against Scott's +.1668. At the 1/8th
mile Lane was ahead of Scott by .06 of a second. At the finish line Scott was
not able to fill in the gap and Lane Lambert walked away a happy man in the
number one spot in the Wheel to Wheel All Motor Class!
